Boulder Terror Attack Could Have Been Prevented, Lawmakers and Officials Say

The Boulder, Colorado, terror attack on June 1, 2025, where Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national illegally in the U.S., allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails at a pro-Israel rally, left eight injured and a nation on edge.

What’s worse? Lawmakers and security officials had been warning for years that lax border policies could lead to exactly this kind of violence.

The Biden administration’s failure to heed those warnings, coupled with its release of an estimated 20 million illegal immigrants into the U.S., set the stage for this tragedy, proving that ignoring security risks comes at a devastating cost.

“We are investigating this incident as an act of terror, and targeted violence,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on X after the attack.

Soliman, 45, reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” while targeting a “Run for Their Lives” walk advocating for Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Among the victims, aged 52 to 88, was a Holocaust survivor. “She endured the worst evil in human history,” Justice Department official Leo Terrell posted on X.

“She came to America seeking safety. And now, decades later, she’s victimized again by a terrorist screaming ‘Free Palestine."

The warnings were loud and clear long before Boulder. In August 2024, then-House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner and Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green raised alarms after a House Judiciary Committee report revealed the devastating cost of the Biden administration’s open-border policies.

“Since the Biden-Harris Administration’s failed open border policies have welcomed potential terrorists into our nation, we’re working to combat these threats and safeguard Americans in their own backyards,” they said in a joint statement.

Their concern wasn’t speculative—CBP data shows 382 individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist were stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border from 2021 to 2024.

“This is another wake-up call to the heightened terror threat facing the United States,” Green said after the Boulder attack, demanding a DHS briefing.

Former FBI Director Christopher Wray had also warned Congress in April 2024:

“I have warned for some time now about the threat that foreign terrorists may seek to exploit our southwest border or some other port of entry to advance a plot against Americans.”

He noted the challenge of fake documents, saying:

“As concerning as the known or suspected terrorists encountered at the border are, perhaps even more concerning are those we do not yet know about.”

Yet, under Biden, an estimated 20 million illegal immigrants entered the U.S., including nearly 2 million “gotaways” who evaded Border Patrol, according to CBP and Border Patrol sources.

The Trump administration didn’t hold back. “A terror attack was committed in Boulder, Colorado by an illegal alien,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted on X.

“He was granted a tourist visa by the Biden Administration and then he illegally overstayed that visa. In response, the Biden Administration gave him a work permit. Suicidal migration must be fully reversed.”

Colorado AG Phil Weiser called it a “hate crime,” while Rep. Hakeem Jeffries condemned it as an “unconscionable act of terror,” saying,

“Antisemitism has no place in our nation or anywhere throughout the world.”

Boulder wasn’t a bolt from the blue—it was a disaster foretold. Lawmakers and officials begged for tighter borders, but the Biden administration’s policies left the door open.

“I’m horrified by last night’s horrific attack in Boulder,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on X, echoing bipartisan outrage. But words won’t undo the damage. We’re fortunate President Trump is taking border security seriously, but we’ve got a long road ahead to fix the disaster Biden left us with.
