Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-TX, is accusing Republicans of orchestrating a systematic effort to eliminate Black representation in Congress through redistricting.
Crockett, whose 30th Congressional District in Texas includes parts of Dallas and surrounding areas, claims that GOP-led redistricting efforts are targeting minority voices to suppress their political influence.
"When it comes to our base, they want to see a fight," the Democrat lawmaker warned on Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s The Lead. "They don’t want to see us just lay down and say, OK, well, the Republicans want to do whatever they want to do. They want to minimize voices. They want to systemically get rid of those Black electeds."
"When I look at the numbers – and to be clear, Florida is already in this thing. We know that Texas is in this thing – we know that they’re putting pressure on Indiana as well as Missouri. So here’s the deal — they have already decided that the only way that they can win, because they have failed policies, is by making sure that they can cheat their way. And while they’re cheating their way, the only way that they can do that is while they also at the same time violate the Constitution as well as The Voting Rights Act and make sure that it’s people of color."

Crockett further alleged that redistricting efforts are targeting prominent Black representatives.
"We’re talking about them going after Clyburn in South Carolina. We’re talking about them going after Andre Carson in Indiana. We’re talking about them going after Reverend Cleaver in Missouri. We’re talking about them going after Emilia Sykes in Ohio," she said. "We’re talking about them coming for three of the four Black representatives that we currently have in the state of Texas. So don’t tell me this isn’t about race when they are clear about who it is that will lose the most when it comes to having their say so on the federal level, they are absolutely, systemically making sure that they roll back all that was fought for, bled for, and died for as it relates to those that came before us."
The Texas redistricting process has been a contentious issue, particularly following the 2020 Census, which prompted states to redraw congressional and legislative maps.
In Texas, the Republican-controlled state legislature approved new maps in 2021 that Democrats claim dilute the voting power of minority communities, particularly Black and Hispanic voters, who make up a significant portion of the state’s population growth.
The 30th Congressional District, represented by Crockett, was redrawn in a way that weakened its Democratic lean by altering its boundaries to include more conservative-leaning areas, potentially jeopardizing her seat—meaning it could flip to Republican control in future elections.
The redistricting process has sparked multiple lawsuits, with plaintiffs alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits racial discrimination in voting.
Detractors, including Crockett, argue that the new maps intentionally fragment minority-heavy voting blocs to reduce their electoral influence, a practice known as "gerrymandering."
In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block the Texas maps, allowing them to remain in effect pending ongoing legal challenges.
Earlier this month, on August 4, during a "Won’t Back Down Tour" rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Crockett blasted President Donald Trump and the Supreme Court, accusing them of undermining democracy.
"Because the Supreme Court has paved the way for half the stuff that we see that’s going on," Crockett said. "Listen, Donald Trump is a piece of sht. Okay, we know that! Yes, he is! He is! But in a functioning democracy, [Trump] still would not be able to get away with this. But he’s been able to get away with this because the House Republicans are complicit. He’s been able to get away with this because Senate Republicans are complicit. But most importantly, the courts, especially the Supreme Court, is complicit.”
Crockett also criticized the lack of ethical oversight on the Supreme Court, stating, "How much sense does that make when we know that they’re taking money?! We have the paper trail! And they refuse to put guardrails on themselves?"
In response, Trump took to Truth Social to attack Crockett, labeling her a "Low (Very!!!) I.Q. Individual" and comparing her unfavorably to the "AOC Plus Three Gang," referring to Democratic Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib.

"Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is a Low (Very!!!) I.Q. Individual, much in the mold of the AOC Plus Three Gang of Country Destroying Morons – Only slightly dumber," the president wrote. "Each of these political hacks should be forced to take a Cognitive Exam, much like the one I recently took while getting my ‘physical’ at our GREAT Washington, D.C., Military Hospital (WR!). As the doctors said, ‘President Trump ACED it, something that is rarely seen!’ These Radical Left Lunatics would all fail this test in a spectacular show of stupidity and incompetence. TAKE THE TEST!!!"
As the 2026 midterms approach, expect this battle over redistricting and political rhetoric to intensify, with both sides digging in. For now, the question remains: will these clashes galvanize voters or further erode trust in the system?
