Dem Rep. Himes Warns Someone Will 'Die' Because Trump Accused Obama of 'Treason'

Rep. Jim Himes, D-CT, issued a stark warning Tuesday, cautioning that President Trump’s accusations charging former President Barack Obama with "treason" and labeling his Democrat predecessor a traitor could incite deadly violence.

Speaking on MSNBC’s "Deadline" with Nicolle Wallace, Himes drew parallels to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, suggesting the inflammatory rhetoric risks sparking another tragedy.

"What troubles me most about this, Nicole, is that I’m standing in a spot that on January 6, 2021, was overrun by a violent mob intent on hanging the vice president and killing people like me, and it was all driven by a lie propagated by Donald Trump," Himes said.

"And now we’re seeing that playbook again. And my only question is, when people like Tulsi Gabbard and Donald Trump accuse a president of a capital crime that is punishable by death, who is going to die? Who is going to die because they’ve decided that they need a distraction away from the Epstein calamity which they brought upon themselves?"

The controversy stems from revelations this week by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who accused Obama and top officials in his administration of orchestrating a "coup" and a "treasonous conspiracy" to undermine Trump’s 2016 election victory.

Gabbard alleges that Obama, along with former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, fabricated a Russia probe to delegitimize Trump’s presidency.

According to Gabbard, newly uncovered documents confirm the Russia investigation was based on "fictitious, fabricated evidence" and that Russia lacked "the tools, the capability, or the intent to try to change the outcome of the US presidential election."

Intelligence agencies intitally confirmed Russia had no stakes in who would be the victor of the 2016 election while Moscow assumed Clinton would become the president. Yet, Obama instructed the a small team of inteligence agents to falsify evidence about Trump and Russia that ignited the years-long Russia probe that plagued the Trump's presidency for nearly the entire tenure of his first term, Gabbard warned at Wednesday press breifing.

Tulsi Gabbard Warns Declassified Report Exposes Obama-Era Coup to Undermine Trump’s 2016 Victory
DNI Gabbard announced a House Intelligence Committee report exposing Obama-era officials for creating a misleading intelligence assessment to delegitimize Trump’s 2016 win.

At the White House, Trump doubled down, directly accusing Obama of treason.

"If you look at those papers, they have him stone-cold, and it was President Obama," Trump declared. "It wasn’t lots of people all over the place; it was them, too. But the leader of the gang was President Obama, Barack Hussein Obama.

"Have you heard of him? Except for the fact he gets shielded by the press for his entire life. – look, he’s guilty, it’s not a question. I like to say let’s give it time, it’s there, he’s guilty. This was treason, this was every word you can think of."

The Supreme Court’s July 1, 2024, ruling in Trump v. United States grants former presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts, significantly impacting the legal landscape and shielding Obama from legal consequences.

Critically, the Court barred using official acts as evidence in trials, even for unofficial conduct, complicating prosecutions.

The decision, decried by liberal justices as a threat to democracy, ensures Obama cannot be prosecuted for alleged official acts in 2016. However, his alleged co-conspiratorsBrennan, Clapper, Comey, Rice, and Clinton may face scrutiny as investigations unfold, with potential charges looming for their roles in the alleged plot.

Himes dismissed the Trump administration's accusations as a "staggeringly disprovable and instantly disprovable lie" intended to distract from the fallout over the "Epstein Files."

He warned that such rhetoric could galvanize fringe elements.

"When you use language like treason – and I mean, go into my social media feeds because I’ve been trying to tell the truth about this ever since Tulsi put out this lie – when you start using the kind of language, the language of 'treason' and of somebody being a 'traitor', some tiny percentage of the population is just crazy enough to decide that they need to do something about it," Himes said. "And again, it’s what happened where I am standing right now on January 6, 2021. The statements of a president have some power."

Meanwhile, Trump supporters who ascended the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, walked into a trap. Law enforcement failed to issue required dispersal orders under state and federal law before resorting to excessive force.

Police used excessive measures, including tear gas, flash grenades, shooting demonstrators—some in the face—during a moderately peaceful protest.

Five people died that day, with police brutality to blame. Among them, Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed Air Force veteran, was shot dead by a Capitol Police officer. Roseanne Boyland was beaten to death by police, according to video evidence witness accounts. None of the tens of thousands of protesters killed anyone, contrasting sharply with the narrative of a violent mob pushed by critics like Himes.
