Progressives, from Democrat leadership to the World Health Organization, relentlessly push transgenderism, especially on vulnerable children, cloaking mental illness in the guise of identity liberation.
Gender dysphoria remains a diagnosed mental disorder, yet the left champions it as a cause célèbre.
Now, in the wake of a horrific Minneapolis school shooting by a transgender biological male, the Department of Justice is taking bold steps to curb access to firearms for those grappling with this psychological affliction.
Senior Justice Department officials are actively exploring a federal ban on transgender individuals owning firearms, according to multiple sources, including one inside the DOJ.
The Office of Legal Counsel has reportedly convened several meetings since the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where a 23-year-old transgender woman killed two children and injured 21 others.
The discussions center on whether gender dysphoria, classified as a mental disorder in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, renders individuals mentally unfit to possess firearms.
"This seems pretty common sense to me," a DOJ official said Thursday. "Democrats have called for common sense gun laws for a long time."
The potential ban represents a significant escalation in the Trump administration’s stance against the growing body dysphoric epidemic, following executive orders barring transgender individuals from military service and mandating federal prisons to house inmates based on biological sex.
Yet, restricting Second Amendment rights for an entire group sparks legal concerns.
Federal law requires a judicial declaration of mental "defect" before stripping firearm ownership rights, and millions of Americans manage mental health issues without posing societal threats.

“Individuals within the DOJ are reviewing ways to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell,” another DOJ source told The Daily Wire.
Vice President JD Vance, visiting Minneapolis to meet with victims’ families, emphasized a bipartisan desire to prevent such tragedies.
"I’m not going to tell the Minnesota lawmakers or the governor exactly how they should respond to this tragedy," Vance said. "I think that…there’s a strong desire from across the political spectrum to do something so that these shootings are less common."
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Vance’s 2024 election opponent, has pushed for broader gun control while designating Minnesota a "trans refuge."
Walz told CBS News, “The things that make America unique in terms of shootings is we just have more guns and the wrong kinds of guns that are on the streets.”
The DOJ, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, has intensified scrutiny of gender-affirming care, issuing over 20 subpoenas to medical providers for transgender treatments to minors.
Bondi, who previously supported raising Florida’s gun purchase age post-Parkland, now oversees a department considering whether transgender individuals can be deemed mentally unfit for gun ownership.
A DOJ spokesman declined to detail specific measures but confirmed, “Under Attorney General Bondi’s leadership, this Department of Justice is actively considering a range of options to prevent mentally unstable individuals from committing acts of violence, especially at schools.”
Conservative voices, including Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to President Trump, have highlighted warning signs in transgender-related violence.
"What we should do is we should look at the early warning signals, the signs," Gorka told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. "We should be providing off-ramps, we should be providing mental health options for these individuals. I find it hard to believe that an individual goes from getting his mother to sign a change of name certificate, age 17, and then just a handful of years later is mowing down innocent children in a church pew during a Catholic mass, and nobody realized there was a problem."
The left, predictably, cries foul, insisting transgender identity is no mental illness but a valid state of being.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey decried "HATE being directed at our trans community," arguing, "Anybody who is using this as an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other community out there, has lost their sense of common humanity."

Yet the pattern of violence—Minneapolis, Nashville, and beyond—demands scrutiny, not denial.
