FBI Director Kash Patel is making waves, vowing to deliver a “definitive answer” to one of the biggest lingering questions about the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, just as the nation continues to grapple with that day’s fallout.

In a fresh interview with Fox News, Patel, a staunch Trump ally, says he’s committed to transparency, tackling not just January 6 but other high-profile cases too.

It’s a bold promise, especially with conspiracy theories still swirling more than four years later, and people are waiting to see if he can deliver.

On May 29, 2025, Fox News aired an exclusive “Special Report” interview with Patel, where he addressed ongoing investigations, including whether FBI sources—not agents—were on the ground during the January 6 riot.

“People have had questions about January 6th and whether or not there were FBI sources – not agents, sources – on the ground during January 6,” Patel told Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier.

“And I told you I would get you the definitive answer to that. And we have, and we are in the process again of working with our partners to divulge that information, and it is coming.”

He hinted the answer might “surprise and shock people because of what past FBI leaders have said about it.”

Patel, who took over as FBI director under President Trump, isn’t stopping at January 6. He’s also tackling other mysteries, like pipe bombs placed outside the DNC and RNC offices the night before the riot, cocaine found in the White House during Biden’s presidency, and the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” probe into Trump-Russia ties after the 2016 election.

“There are ‘answers coming’ in a number of other investigations,” he told Baier, according to Yahoo News.

His push for transparency comes after years of criticism—some say former FBI Director Christopher Wray dodged questions, with Patel calling Wray’s responses “D.C. answers” that deflected from the truth.”

The January 6 question has been a lightning rod. Trump has long claimed he authorized National Guard troops for that day—a claim the Associated Press debunked, noting no such order was signed, though Trump was involved in discussions days prior.

Patel seems set on rewriting that narrative. “Now that we’ve beat back that disinformation campaign with actual truth, is what was the FBI doing?” he said on Fox News, hinting at forthcoming revelations.

Critics have long questioned Patel’s motives, especially since he’s been a vocal supporter of Trump’s narrative around the 2020 election.

“This is the only reason Trump appointed Patel, who was a huge proponent of the BIG Lie,” Crooks and Liars reported back when Patel was nominated, pointing to his history of pushing the idea that the election was stolen.

Patel’s also clashed with Democrats over his take. During a May 7, 2025, House committee hearing, he got heated with Rep. Madeleine Dean, who pressed him on his past comments about January 6 defendants.

“You’re accusing me of committing perjury,” Patel snapped, per Newsweek, showing how tense these discussions remain. As of today, just hours after the Fox News interview aired—the nation’s still waiting for Patel’s promised answers, and whether they’ll settle the debate or fuel more division is anyone’s guess.
