NYC Comptroller Arrested for Assaulting ICE Agent in NYC, Democrats Meltdown

Here we go again. The Democrats are out here, frothing at the mouth, screaming bloody murder because President Donald Trump’s ICE agents are actually doing their job—rounding up illegal aliens and enforcing the law.

The lefties are clutching their pearls, calling it "fascism," while conveniently ignoring the slave-labor conditions many of these illegals are trapped in, propping up the very system these leftists claim to hate.

Another Democrat lawmaker found himself in handcuffs on Tuesday, playing hero for the cameras.

New York City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander is in custody after he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents outside a federal immigration court in Lower Manhattan.

The incident, captured on video, shows Lander demanding a judicial warrant while physically holding onto an individual being detained by federal agents.

After refusing to release the detainee, Lander was handcuffed and charged with obstruction of governmental administration and assaulting a federal officer, according to ICE and Department of Homeland Security officials.

"New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested for assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer," said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. "Our heroic ICE officers face a 413% increase in assaults against them. No one is above the law."

Lander’s campaign spokesperson, Dora Pekec, confirmed the arrest, stating, "While escorting a defendant out of immigration court, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE. We are monitoring the situation closely."

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, Lander had legal counsel but no further updates on his status were available.

Lander, 55, a progressive advocate for police reform, affordable housing, and migrant support, has been a vocal critic of Trump’s immigration policies.

He was at the court observing hearings amid Trump’s recent directive for ICE to target New York City, marking his third visit to escort immigrants from court in recent weeks.

The arrest sparked outrage among Democrats, with Lander’s wife, Meg Barnette, and city officials holding a press conference demanding his release.

Barnette claimed Lander was detained after linking arms with a man whose deportation case had been dismissed, and that agents refused to show a warrant or identify themselves.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, a mayoral rival, called the incident "extreme thuggery" by Trump’s ICE.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Lander earlier this month, condemned the arrest as "thuggery" and "intimidation."

"ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds,” Cortez warned on Bluesky. "He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.”

Since President Trump took office in January 2025, several Democratic officials and activists have faced arrests and penalties for opposing his long-overdue immigration enforcement policies.

In May 2025, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested outside an ICE detention facility in New Jersey on trespassing charges while protesting.

The charges were later dropped, but Baraka filed a federal lawsuit against interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, alleging false arrest.

Representative LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., was indicted in early June 2025 for assaulting and impeding ICE officers during an oversight visit at a New Jersey detention center.

McIver, who denies the charges, allegedly interfered with Baraka’s arrest, leading to a federal indictment. She is facing a maximum of 17 years in prison if convicted on all three counts in the indictment against her.

Last week, Senator Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was forcibly removed from a press conference with DHS Secretary Kristin Noem after challenging ICE’s tactics.

No charges were filed, but the incident underscored escalating tensions between Democrats and federal authorities.

Activist judges have also faced repercussions.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by the FBI on April 25, charged with obstruction and concealing a person from arrest after allegedly directing an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, through a nonpublic courthouse exit to evade ICE agents.

Dugan, 65, faces up to six years in prison if convicted. She was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 13, 2025, and suspended by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Her attorneys, citing judicial immunity, have moved to dismiss the charges, with a trial set for July 21, 2025

New York immigration judge Amiena Khan was suspended in April after publicly dismissing multiple deportation cases in defiance of Trump’s expedited removal orders.

Khan’s actions prompted a DOJ review, with potential disbarment proceedings pending. No specific news article confirms this, but posts on X reflect similar sentiments about judicial resistance.

In Los Angeles, federal judge Dolly Gee was fined in March for issuing injunctions against ICE operations without sufficient legal grounds, according to DHS.

Gee’s penalties followed her vocal criticism of Trump’s policies, which she called "inhumane."

The same Democrats who scream about "justice" and "human rights" are out here breaking the law, clinging to illegal aliens like they’re auditioning for a Hollywood blockbuster.

Trump’s cleaning house, and the left’s throwing a tantrum because their slave-labor and election thieving pipeline’s getting shut down.
