The couple's bodies were discovered around 3:30 p.m. when firefighters responded to a medical aid call. Sources told multiple outlets that the victims suffered throat wounds consistent with stabbing, and one of the couple's daughters found the bodies.

Nick Reiner, who has publicly discussed his long battles with drug addiction and homelessness starting in his teens, was taken into custody Sunday night.

He co-wrote and inspired his father's 2015 film "Being Charlie," a semi-autobiographical story about addiction.

Family sources told TMZ that Rob Reiner and his son had a loud argument at comedian Conan O'Brien's Christmas party Saturday night, audible to other guests.

The couple left the party early.

The Reiner family issued a statement: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."

Rob Reiner, son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, rose to fame as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on "All in the Family" and directed classics including "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand By Me," "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally..." and "A Few Good Men."

He and Michele met on the set of the latter film and married in 1989.

President Trump commented on the deaths via Truth Social:

"Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

The post drew bipartisan criticism. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., wrote: "Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it."

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., added: "This statement is wrong. Regardless of one’s political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son. It’s a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion from everyone in our country, period."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., stated, "This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote: "Trump knows no shame."

Authorities have indicated no political motive in the killings.

And that's the latest from Los Angeles on this shocking family tragedy in Hollywood.
