In the heart of a sanctuary city that's long coddled lawbreakers while demonizing the brave men and women enforcing our borders, federal agents finally faced the predictable backlash — and it turned deadly.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot a woman Wednesday morning in south Minneapolis after she weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to run over officers during a targeted immigration enforcement operation, the Department of Homeland Security said.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued the following statement:
Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism. An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries. This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement who are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats. This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident underscoring that the officer who fatally shot the rioter acted in self-defense, as the hostile demonstrator attempted to ram a vehicle into the agents.
"Our ICE officers were out in an enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis," Noem said. "They were attempting to push out their vehicle and a woman attacked them, and those surrounding them, and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively shot to protect himself and the people around him and my understanding is that she was hit and is deceased."
Video footage circulating on social media shows ICE agents approaching a woman's SUV on a residential street, with commands heard: "Ma’am, get out of the car, out of the car, get out of the f—ing car."
The car is in forward motion directly at the ICE agent before he draws. The agent at the door issued a command to exit the vehicle, so she ignored a lawful order. Tragic, stupid, preventable, and still justified from what I can see.

And, inevitable based on how ICE is portrayed. https://t.co/5NzFIQJ3dD
One agent attempts to open the door and reaches inside.

The vehicle briefly reverses, then moves forward, prompting an agent in front to fire multiple shots into the windshield.
The best video evidence right now shows ICE shot a woman while she was attempting to drive away from rather than run over a federal agent. Unless something else comes out, a trigger happy fed just executed an American citizen and the Trump admin wants to cover it up. This isn’t… https://t.co/hUE9ZEreqb pic.twitter.com/qPQwfTbShs

Minneapolis Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the federal account
after viewing video, characterizing ICE agents as terrorists.
"I have a message for ICE, to ICE: Get the f— out of Minneapolis," Frey said. "What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets, and in this case, quite literally killing people, so they are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video of myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullshit," Frey chided.
"This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed."
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz doubled down, claiming the agent maliciously murdered the defenseless woman.
"I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine," the Democrat lawmaker wrote on X. "The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice."
Then Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., weighed in with rhetoric in tandem with Democrat Party, warning, "ICE must stop terrorizing our communities and leave our city."
In a later statement, Omar continued to politicize the tragedy, blaming President Donald Trump for the incident.
"ICE’s actions today were unconscionable and reprehensible. I am beyond outraged that their reckless, callous actions led to the killing of a legal observer in Minneapolis," Omar stated. "My heart breaks for the victim’s family, who will have to forever live with the pain caused by the Trump Administration’s reckless and deadly actions."
"This administration has shown, yet again, that it does not care about the safety of Minnesotans. Instead of protecting our communities, they are unleashing violence – terrorizing neighborhoods and now killing a civilian," she continued. "For weeks, ICE’s so-called ‘Operation Metro Surge’ has spread fear, chaos, and violence across our state. This is not law enforcement. It is state violence. It is simply indefensible, and ICE must be held accountable. That must include a full, comprehensive investigation and legal action against the agency."
The shooting occurred amid a massive deployment of up to 2,000 ICE and Homeland Security Investigations agents to the Twin Cities area targeting immigration enforcement and alleged fraud in social service programs.
The FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating.
As the investigation continues, tensions remain high in Minneapolis amid conflicting accounts from federal authorities defending their officers against what they call a terrorist act, and local Democratic leaders decrying the shooting while demanding federal agents leave the city.
