Stephen King has publicly apologised for a false comment he made about Charlie Kirk on social media.
Commenting a post defending Charlie Kirk's 'controversial' views, Stephen King wrote, "He advocated stoning gays to death. Just sayin'."
I was wrong, and I apologize. I have deleted the post. https://t.co/v6NOIUGEvS

Not only was King repeating a false claim, but many people saw this post as a justification for the killing.
Backlash ensued. Stephen King has since deleted the post and apologised.
Charlie Kirk never advocated for the death of gays—as many correctly pointed out. This was simply hyperbolic rhetoric from leftists who only know of Kirk through the media and other leftists.
A post from Charlie Kirk clearly states his opinion:
"I believe marriage is one man one woman also gay people should be welcome in the conservative movement. As Christians we are called to love everyone. I will always stand against people who wish to establish their own personal values as a reason to kick others out of our movement."
Ted Cruz also attacked King for his outrageous post, calling him a "horrible, evil, twisted liar."
The horrible, evil, twisted liar apologizes. This is what I get for reading something on Twitter w/o fact-checking. Won't happen again. https://t.co/L7fL2Ml4eR

To King's credit he has apologised for his comment and retracted it, agreeing that the claim was false and that he should have fact-checked the claim.
"I have apologized. Charlie Kirk never advocated stoning gays to death."
And in another tweet directed at Senator Ted Cruz:
"This is what I get for reading something on Twitter w/o fact-checking. Won't happen again."
