Border Chaos Escalates: Mexico’s President Threatens to 'Mobilize' Against Trump's Tax Plan

Mexico’s president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, is audaciously threatening the United States with "mobilization"—as illegal immigrants from her country flood our southern border and riot in the streets of Los Angeles.

Sheinbaum is vowing to "mobilize" if the Trump administration imposes a tax on remittances, signaling a potential call for demonstrations within the U.S.

"If necessary, we’ll mobilize. We don’t want taxes on remittances from our fellow countrymen from the US to Mexico." Sheinbaum declared in a press conference on Sunday.

The statement, made amid rising tensions, suggests she may be urging Mexican citizens in the U.S. to organize protests, possibly with government backing, though the exact meaning of "mobilize" remains unclear.

This warning comes as remittances to Mexico have plummeted to a ten-year low since President Trump’s return to office.

In April alone, a Banxico.org report revealed a $250 million drop in transfers, attributed to Trump’s aggressive immigration agenda, including border militarization, mass deportations, and workplace raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Sheinbaum addressed the decline, urging Mexican citizens to remain calm as her government investigates why payments have precipitously fallen.

She condemned the proposed "Big Beautiful Bill," which includes the remittance tax, calling it "unfair" and vowing unity against it.

"Mexican citizens in America work hard to pay their bills. We don’t want this tax to affect the remittances of our countrymen, who tend to the needy," she said, urging Mexicans to contact U.S. senators and hinting at a countermeasure called 'Finabien' to reduce remittance fees.

The proposed "Big Beautiful Bill" threatens further declines, introducing a 3.5% tax on remittances.

The U.S., the world’s top source of remittances, saw its share rise from 23.4% in 2020–21 to 28% in 2023–24, driven by post-pandemic economic recovery and a 6.3% increase in foreign-born workers.

Countries like Mexico, India, China, Vietnam, and others in Latin America stand to lose significantly if the tax is enacted.

Sheinbaum’s threat comes amid ongoing riots in Los Angeles, where illegal immigrants, predominantly Mexican, and left-wing radicals have clashed with federal agents over ICE raids that began Friday.

The disturbances escalated as protesters marched to a federal detention center on Alameda Street, using concrete from bollards as projectiles against officers, who responded with tear gas and riot gear.

President Trump has deployed 2,000 National Guard troops, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth placing Marines on high alert.

Local leaders, including Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom, have sided with the rioters, amplifying the chaos.

Sheinbaum's threats against the United States are striking, given the continuous flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico and the violent unrest they’ve fueled in Los Angeles for days.

Yet, the irony is palpable: The Mexican government locks up Americans sneaking into Mexico with no mercy.

Mexico imposes a penalty of up to two years in prison for illegal entry from the U.S., with deportation and a 10-year reentry ban, a stark contrast to the leniency illegal alien rioters are demanding here.

Historically, Mexican presidents have adhered to a non-intervention policy, avoiding direct calls for action within the U.S.

While past leaders, like Vicente Fox in 2006, criticized U.S. immigration policies, none openly threatened to "mobilize" citizens abroad.

Mexico’s leader thinks she can play hardball while her people crash our borders and turn L.A. into a battleground. Classic—threaten us while reaping the benefits of our open doors.
