In 2023, 15% of British people considered themselves to be anti-woke, and 42% considered being describes as “woke” to be insulting.
America is no different. The polarized climate in social media and public discourse makes it apparent that the woke-non-woke cultural war is escalating. What is the anti woke movement, and what role does it play in this battle?
What is Anti Woke?
Anti woke is the rejection of ‘wokeism’—the movement that prioritizes radical gender ideology and forced diversity quotas over competence, merit, and true equality. The “woke” ideas of social progress sound good on paper, but in actuality, this buzzword has transformed into an ideological agenda that threatens free speech, meritocracy, and traditional American values.
There are two kinds of anti-woke people. On one end, we have passionate defenders of national pride, family, and traditional values. On the other end, there exist more moderate voices who may accept these cultural shifts within reason. What both parties have in common is that they draw the line at nonsense policies, exaggerated political correctness, and discrimination in the name of diversity. Many Americans can’t stand how the wokeist agenda is being pushed onto them, telling them what to think, how to speak, and who to hire.
What Does Anti Woke Mean?
Being anti-woke means to oppose woke culture and its tarnishing of fairness, freedom, and accountability in American society. Contrary to what the liberals want you to believe, wokeism is not about bringing genuine progress and social justice (that’s just what anybody would do as a good American citizen). Truth be told, wokeism is hypocrisy masked as virtue in the name of “inclusion”. It is about policing language, radical gender and identity policies in schools, sports and hiring, and basically any sort of public shaming on anybody who doesn’t worship queers and non-white ethnicities. If liberals were so interested in equality, they wouldn’t try to divide America by creating this culture war.
So, being anti-woke means not participating in this game of shame, believing in free speech over shallow political correctness, and supporting genuine equality. People should be judged by their character and competence, not by their race, gender, or sexuality.
What is Anti Woke Movement?
The anti-woke movement is the resistance against woke activism and its extremist agenda, largely driven by conservatives. This movement seeks to restore meritocracy and protect constitutional rights and freedoms. There are various ways in which anti-woke advocates push back:
- Upholding the First Amendment: Conservatives remind the public of their right to free speech. Wokeists are unfairly policing language and constantly changing the rules about political correctness. Anti-woke advocates remind us that the Constitution doesn’t bend for arbitrary lexicons.
- Exposing double standards: The anti-woke movement’s most important role is to expose how woke policies promote intolerance. Anti-woke voices are quick to spot hypocrisies, such as universities applying different rules for different races.
- Using alternative platforms: Mainstream media and big tech eat off the woke liberal hand. Despite their censorship of dissenting opinions, anti-woke conservatives have found ways to keep spreading the message through alternative platforms and social media.
- Resisting cancel culture: One of the biggest challenges that the anti-woke movement faces is cancel culture. Angry woke mobs, backed up by their total control of the media, love targeting conservatives. Thankfully, there are still commentators, comedians, radio hosts, and influencers brave enough to refuse being silenced. These people play a significant role in amplifying the truth about wokeness.
What Does Anti Woke Mean in Politics?
In politics, the anti-woke movement tries to challenge wokeism by making systemic changes through laws and policies. From Florida’s Stop WOKE Act to Trump’s crackdown on DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) programs, anti-woke policies are regaining ground. Anti-woke political advocates do so by:
- Political pushback: More and more voters are sick of taxpayer dollars funding progressive indoctrination. Politicians and political parties hear this and are doing what they can by questioning (or banning) radical woke ideas. For example, mayor Brandon Johnson admitted he hires black staff because they are ‘Earth’s most generous race’. How is this equality?
- Anti-woke legislation: This includes actually implementing laws and bills that aim to restrict discussions about race and gender in schools, protect women’s sports from male athletes, and hold colleges and workplaces accountable for race-based privileges.
Why Are People Anti Woke?
Because they’re tired of the hypocrisy, the performative outrage, the mobs, and the weaponized language of wokeism. Americans want true meritocracy, one based on the premise that skill and effort —not race—will lead the way for progress. They want freedom of speech. They want to live their lifestyles without having somebody else’s imposed on theirs.
The anti-woke movement has had enough with the witch hunt. They are putting up a mirror, and maybe one day, wokeists will take one hard look at themselves and realize how their double standards damage America.
