President Donald Trump has often warned Americans that former Vice President Kamala Harris is far left. But what does the term truly mean, and why is it important?

What is the Far Left?

The far left—also known as the extreme left, ultra-left, or radical left—refers to political ideologies that go beyond liberalism to promote radical ideas like anarchism, socialism, communism, as well the rejection of capitalism and traditional democracy. 

What Does Far Left Mean?

In contemporary America, being far left means wanting to dismantle the entire economic and political system, defund the police, abolish ICE, push for open borders, redistribute wealth, and insist on extreme climate policies, regardless of financial fallout.

While the mainstream left advocates for higher state control, multiculturalism, and globalist agendas, the far left does so more aggressively, turning them into revolutionary changes. Mainstream leftists pose to diminish national prosperity with their “progressive” and reformist ideas, but the far left goes one step further and threatens to turn American society upside-down. Far-left activists are, in essence, anti-American: anti-capitalist, anti-conservative, and often anti-nationalist with their speech and worldviews.

Why the Far Left is Dangerous to America

The far left is dangerous because it stands for everything that America is not and should not be. The policies of the far left are more than extreme: They’re destructive. 

Americans are seeing the risks of open-border policies up close, since the Trump ICE crackdown has revealed how criminals roam the streets, how American jobs and infrastructure are being pressured, and how drug cartels flourished under Democratic rule. When liberal cities across the country reduced funding for their police in 2020, cities saw record-high homicide rates in 2021, and violent crimes increased by up to 40% in 2021. Their radical environmental agenda could ruin industries, destroy energy independence, and increase the costs of living. Additionally, far-left ideology promotes division through wokeism, cancel culture, fearmongering, and, frankly, double standards. 

Through a vast array of socio-economic and political schemes, the far left seeks to tear down American traditions, values, and institutions through the misleading and uninformed auspices of  “social justice”.

Is Kamala Harris Far Left?

Donald Trump and conservative commentators on Fox News have long sounded the alarm on Kamala Harris’s political stance. Indeed, Kamala Harris’s history shows that she has long supported leftist causes, but exactly how leftist she is is up for debate. 

She has endorsed many bills aligned with leftist interests. For example, she co-sponsored a bill that would eliminate private health insurance—pushing government-run “Medicaid for All” as the only option. In 2019, Harris introduced a $10 trillion climate plan to convert the U.S. to a 100% renewable energy-based grid by 2030. She pledged to rejoin the Paris Agreement and end U.S. support for international oil and gas projects. She was among 34 senators who asked Trump not to cut off $370 million in foreign assistance to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras—a move Trump hoped would pressure these countries to scale down migration to the United States.  

GovTrack, an independent organization that collects data on Congress members, ranked Harris as the “most liberal compared to All Senators” in 2019. Her actions align with some of the most radical voices in the Democratic Party.

How Far Left is Kamala Harris?

Kamala Harris may not scream from the White House rooftops that she's a socialist, but her policy positions are virtually indistinguishable from far-left ideology. From aggressively supporting abortion to disrupting current education, safety, and healthcare systems, Harris cannot, under any circumstances, be considered “just a liberal”.

That’s why Donald Trump’s warning about Kamala Harris’s far-left intentions should not be taken lightly—it’s a reminder of where the party, and possibly even the nation, could be headed if Harris decides to take the political spotlight once more.
